Handfish Detection
Handfish are a rare and endangered species found around the coast of Tasmania. Manually identifying handfish in images taken by an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), like the image here, is slow and time-consuming.
Using machine learning, I have trained an object detector with very few examples for training. The map below shows where handfish have been identified in AUV images by either. human or the machine learning object detector.
Handfish are difficult to identify in AUV images as shown in the image above.
